The story of a discovery, of sweating the earth, of pursuing a dream.

Bodegas Torralbenc was born from a challenge, to resume the heritage of others, to rebuild and recover it. Rehabilitating a traditional Menorcan finca, and bringing life back to an abandoned land, giving it back its essence.

Wines

At 2016 Bodegas Torralbenc saw the birth of its first wine. A first vintage stolen from the rock, the earth and the light of Menorca, and which demonstrates the full potential of its grapes.

With a production of 33,000 bottles per year but with the medium-term objective of reaching 70,000 units, Torralbenc currently markets six different wines of Vino de la Tierra Isla de Menorca and Vino de la Tierra Islas Baleares.

Advised by Michelin-starred chef Gorka Txapartegi and led by chef Luis Loza, Torralbenc’s restaurant is the result of the simple and honest techniques of Basque cuisine with respect for the roots of Menorcan gastronomy. In their recipes they use local and organic products, some of them produced in our lands, such as our Torralbenc wines, oil, vegetables, spices and eggs. The result is a short and precise menu, combining simple but tasty starters, grilled meats and fish, a selection of rice dishes and homemade desserts.

History

Torralbenc was born from the rehabilitation of a traditional Menorcan farm.

This winery is owned by the Urtasun family and is part of a winemaking project of signature wineries, in addition to the two other wineries they also have in La Rioja and Ribera del Duero under the guidance of the prestigious winemaker José Ramón Lissarrague.

It is a traditional Menorcan farm converted into a luxury agritourism and winery. The 77-hectare estate is made up of a group of buildings from the 19th and early 20th centuries, formerly dedicated to the island’s livestock and agriculture.

Everything in Torralbenc, its location, architecture, local gastronomy, wellness proposals, leisure possibilities on the island, the human team and its philosophy, reflect the Menorcan spirit so that visitors can enjoy a peaceful and renewing stay, fully connected with nature and the traditions of this Mediterranean paradise.

Vineyards

They have seventeen hectares located within an agricultural estate, halfway between Sant Climent and the urbanization of Cala en Porter, which has undergone three planting phases. The first five were grown in 2006. The second phase was completed in 2013, with another five hectares. In 2017, seven hectares were planted to reach the current 17 hectares.

Bringing life back to land that had not been cultivated in 30 years was a challenge, especially the process of digging out the hard and very difficult to plant Menorcan limestone soil. But the illusion of working an unknown land and the respect for the heritage and the environment, made them want to continue learning and perfecting the technique, until they converted these lands into a viable and productive vineyard.

Location

Torralbenc is an agricultural estate of 77 hectares in the municipality of Alaior (Menorca).

It is located on a privileged hill surrounded by vineyards, 15 minutes from Maó and overlooking the blue horizon of the Mediterranean Sea.
