After almost a decade, the Sa Marjaleta winery in Ciutadella has announced the launch of four new wines that will become part of its catalog under the Iamontanum label. Four novelties , the first of which is expected to arrive on the market this December around Christmas with a special incentive and the fact that it is a monovarietal of Garnacha , the first to be vinified in Menorca.
“It will be a table wine because Grenache is not included among the varieties of the IGP Vi de la Terra Illa de Menorca, but we hope that its quality will help it to be contemplated in the future”, he explains AndrewCasanovas, co-owner of this family winery together with his sister Glòria. At the outset, it is planned that they will be able to leave with around 4,000 of this black Grenache.
The second novelty that will also arrive for Christmas will be a monovarietal chardonnay , this one labeled under the IGP Vi de la Terra Illa de Menorca, of which a more limited shipment of around 1,400 bottles is planned. “Until now we had little production and we had never vinified Chardonnay alone because we added it to our viognier, but the vine has grown and the plants are well formed, so we decided to bet on this monovarietal because we believe it will have the quality and personality to be on the market” adds Casasnovas.
Looking ahead to next year, Sa Marjaleta also announces news and will add the third wine, in this case a blend of cabernet sauvignon, merlot and syrah. “It will be aged for 12 months in oak barrels and the idea is to make around 1,200 bottles. We don’t know if it will have continuity because it will depend on how production evolves,” comments Andreu Casasnovas. Finally, and already thinking about 2025, a fourth wine will appear which will be a monovarietal merlot, which will complete the portfolio with which the winery wants to have a presence in Menorca. “Our idea is to keep the two high-end wines that are emblematic of the winery as they are viognier and syrah, extending the aging up to 16 months with the new oak barrels that we will use and then offer these other four wines that will complement us” he explains.
