Menorca produced 1,882 hectoliters of wine with a protected designation of origin in 2024. This represents a decrease of 5% compared to last year when 1,982 were produced. The reason for the poor vintage was, basically, the climatic conditions experienced, mainly the drought as explained by the Balearic Minister of Agriculture, Joan Simonet.
This decline has been even more pronounced at the regional level where it reached 22% less. What happens is that in Menorca, the lower production has coincided with an increase in the area of vineyards in yield and therefore, the fall has been cushioned. If in 2023 there were 83.9 hectares, this year there were 92.8. This has allowed the 326 tons of grapes harvested last year to be reduced to only 305 when the result could have been much worse.
